Little girls love dolls. They just do. I sometimes get sick of dolls. Barbies reinforce unrealistic stereotypes of beauty and Bratz dress like tramps with pierced navals and bling-bling.
That is why I like American Girls, and so does my daughter Madeline. American Girls are bigger than Barbies and they look like little girls, not like Kellie Picklers. Each American Girl represents a different era in American History and they are dressed accordingly. They even have back stories and multi-chaptered books for each American Girl that teach about American History. Sure, we have a multi-chaptered Barbie book, but the book has typos and the chapters are "Barbie Loves Ponies" and "Barbie Loves Weddings"
Here is a link to American Girls website(link).
