Balkman NBA Draft Shocker

We are huge Gamecock Basketball fans.

That is why we were sad when USC player Renaldo Balkman (check out my autographed poster, at right) decided to for-go his last year of elligibilty at USC and make himself eligible for the NBA draft.

Balkman averaged 9.6 PPG and 6.3 RPG a game as a Junior last year at USC.

Last night, Balkman was drafted by the New York Knicks with the 20th pick in the NBA draft.

The "shocker" is that, 9 picks before Balkman, the Orlando Magic picked a white player who writes bad poetry (link), has a bad back, a recent DWI (link), and a history of choking in the big game (link) ...

I am unfamiliar with Redick's hand gesture in the picture - is it a variation of "the shocker?"

Balkman has the best hair in the draft and I bet he would be voted most likely to twist one up to celebrate being drafted in round 1.

JJ isn't giving us "The Shocker" in that photo, it is a similar hand gesture called "The Laettner".
