I have been highlighting some of the best mixed tapes/mixed cd's that I have made over the years.

My kid-friendly cd's are appropriate for the youngest ears, yet good enough to listen to even when kids are not in the car.

Have You Never Been Mellow is a kid-friendly mixed cd that I made highlighting the mellow music from 1975. You start this cd in the minivan when it is time for the kids to nap or go night-night, and mom and dad keep listening even after the kids are asleep.

Lady is one of the cheesiest songs from one of the cheesiest bands. I seem to recall a scene from the Simpsons where Lady is playing in Hell as Charon is shuttling people across the river STYX.

The singer for Ace is Paul Carrack who sings the Squeeze song Tempted and was one of the "Mechanics" in the 80's band Mike and the Mechanics

In 1969, Fleetwood Mac was a successful Blues band known for their raucous stage shows. Their albums consistently sold about 300,000 copies and they were known as outstanding musicians. When Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined the band in 1974, they changed their sound and became one of the best-selling bands ever. Until then, this was the only Fleetwood Mac song that charted.

The single was released in 2 parts. Radio stations usually play the A-side, "Oh Well (part 1)." The B-side is "Oh Well (part 2)," an orchestral piece that sounds completely different. Both parts were written by Peter Green and go together on the album.

The stop and start technique inspired Led Zeppelin to do the same thing on "Black Dog." Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes did a version of this for their 2000 album Live At The Greek.

Great Mix Tapes - Juju Eyeball

I had a friend in college named Brian who loved the Beatles, particularly John Lennon. Brian had even based his hair style on a photo of John Lennon.

Before I met Brian, I was a casual Beatles fan who had heard Sgt. Peppers and "Stars-On-45 Beatles Medley".

Brian changed all that with one tremendous Beatles Mix Tape, Juju Eyeball. Juju Eyeball was named after a line in the song "Come Together" from the album Abbey Road.

Last week on the way to day-care I was playing a Beatles Studio Bootleg (link) called Acoustic Submarine. Madeline really liked one of the songs and now I have to play it once or twice, every morning. Madeline sings and Sam air-guitars.

I remembered when I had first heard that song...
